1 TBSP Olive Oil
1 Yellow Onion (Diced)
1 LB Lean Ground Beef
1 1/2 TBSP Chili Powder
2 TBSP Ground Cumin
2 TBSP Granulated Sugar
2 TBSP Tomato Paste
1 TBSP Garlic Powder
1 TSP Salt
1 TSP Ground Black Pepper
1/4 TSP Cayenne Pepper
1 1/2 Cups Beef Broth
1 (15 Oz) Can Petite Diced Tomatoes
1 (16 Oz) Can Red Kidney Beans (Drained and Rinsed)
1 (8 Oz) Can Tomato Sauce
Add olive oil to a large soup pot and place it over medium-high heat until the oil begins to shimmer.
Add the onion and cook for 5 minutes, stirring occasionally.
Add ground beef to the pot and break apart with a wooden spoon as it cooks for 6-8 minutes until well browned.
Add chili powder, cumin, sugar, tomato paste, garlic powder, salt, pepper and cayenne, stir to combine well.
Add the beef broth, diced tomatoes (including the juice), drained beans and mix well.
Bring the mixture to a low boil then, reduce heat to a simmer and cook uncovered for 30 minutes stirring occasionally.
Remove the pot from the heat and allow the chili to rest for 15 minutes before serving.
