1 cup strong black coffee
2 oz brandy
1 oz orange liqueur (such as Cointreau or Grand Marnier)
1 cinnamon stick
4 cloves
1 strip of lemon peel
1 strip of orange peel
Sugar cubes (to taste)
Lemon twist (for garnish)
Begin by preparing a strong cup of black coffee. Make sure it is hot and ready for the next steps.
In a heat-resistant glass or a traditional Brûlot bowl, combine the brandy and orange liqueur. Stir gently to combine the spirits.
Light a long match or a long-handled lighter. Hold the flame close to the glass and carefully ignite the alcohol mixture. Be cautious and aware of safety precautions when working with open flames.
Once the flame is ignited, hold the cinnamon stick over the flame and let it catch fire. Slowly lower the flaming cinnamon stick into the glass, allowing it to infuse the mixture with its aromatic smokiness.
Add the cloves, lemon peel, and orange peel to the glass, gently stirring them into the flaming mixture.
Sprinkle in sugar cubes to taste, allowing them to dissolve into the mixture as it continues to burn.
Gradually pour the hot black coffee into the glass, extinguishing the flames. Be cautious when adding the coffee, as it may cause a small splatter.
Stir gently to combine all the ingredients, ensuring that the flavors meld together.
To garnish, twist a lemon peel over the glass to release its oils, then drop it into the drink.
