2 ¾ cups all-purpose flour
¼ cup granulated sugar
2 ¼ teaspoons instant yeast
½ teaspoon salt
½ cup warm milk (around 110°F/43°C)
2 tablespoons unsalted butter, melted
2 large eggs
½ cup Nutella (or chocolate-hazelnut spread)
1 egg, beaten (for egg wash)
2 tablespoons sliced almonds (optional, for garnish)
Prepare the dough:
In a large mixing bowl, combine the all-purpose flour, sugar, instant yeast, and salt.
In a separate bowl, whisk together the warm milk, melted butter, and eggs until well combined.
Pour the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients and stir until a dough forms.
Knead the dough:
Transfer the dough to a well-floured surface.
Knead the dough for about 5-7 minutes until it becomes smooth and elastic.
First rise:
Lightly oil a large bowl and place the kneaded dough into it, turning it around to coat it with oil.
Cover the bowl with a clean kitchen towel or plastic wrap and let it rise in a warm, draft-free place for about 1-2 hours until it doubles in size.
Shape the bread:
Once the dough has risen, punch it down to release any air bubbles.
Transfer the dough to a floured surface and divide it into two equal portions.
Roll each portion into a rectangle, approximately 12x8 inches in size.
Spread Nutella and braid:
Spread a generous layer of Nutella over each rectangle, leaving a small border around the edges.
Starting from the long side, tightly roll up each rectangle into a log.
Place the two logs side by side and pinch one end together.
Carefully twist the two logs around each other, keeping the Nutella filling inside.
Pinch the other end together to secure the braid.
Second rise:
Place the braided bread on a parchment-lined baking sheet.
Cover the bread with a kitchen towel and let it rise for another 30-45 minutes until it increases in size.
Preheat and bake:
Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) during the last 10 minutes of the second rise.
Brush the braided bread with the beaten egg to create an egg wash.
If desired, sprinkle sliced almonds on top for added texture and decoration.
Place the baking sheet with the bread in the preheated oven.
Bake for 25-30 minutes or until the bread turns golden brown and sounds hollow when tapped on the bottom.
Cool and serve:
Remove the braided Nutella bread from the oven and let it cool on a wire rack before slicing.
