Crumpets Recipe.


Ingredients:


1 1/2 Cups Milk
3 1/2 Cups All Purpose Flour
1 1/4 TSP Active Dry Yeast
2 TSP Sugar
1 1/2 Cups Warm Water
1 TSP Salt
1 TSP Baking Powder


Recipe Instructions:


In a saucepan, over medium-low heat, warm the milk skimming off any film that appears on the top.
To warm milk add the flour, yeast and sugar in a large glass bowl and whisk together.
When combined, add half of the warm water and beat into the batter, continue adding more water until batter is thick and smooth, once it reaches the consistency of thick cream, stop adding water.
Cover with plastic wrap and leave in a warm, draft free area until mixture is foaming, about 1-2 hours.
Whisk the salt and baking powder into the batter.
In a large frying pan over medium heat, moisten bottom of pan and the base of a crumpet ring (or a mason jar lid ring).
Place the ring in the heated pan and fill with enough batter to just fill to below the top of the ring.
Cook for about 4-6 minutes, until the crumpet is beginning to set and there are tiny holes appearing on the top.
Flip the ring over and cook for another 3 minutes.
Remove crumpet from ring and cool on a wire rack, repeat with remaining batter.
To serve, reheat in a toaster and spread with butter or jam.
